Mara Krumins
Metalsmith and Mixed Media Artist
Artist Statement
Mara Krumins
Upon receiving my M.B.A., I began my professional career as a bond analyst for a mutual fund and an international loan syndicator for a major U.S. bank. After countless hours doodling designs on my notes during business meetings, I gave up the financial world to follow my creative dream as a metalsmith.
I am primarily a self-taught artist who uses my intuitive style to capture the world in my imagination. My jewelry work includes one-of-a-kind, hand-fabricated pieces incorporating textured precious metals with pearls and found objects.  I have exhibited in shows and galleries since 1999.Â
From metalsmithing I have expanded my artistic repertoire over the years to include bookbinding, printmaking, assemblage, photography and most importantly, collage.   I enjoy combining techniques and materials from all the different media I have used to create unique pieces that speak to the artistic and life journey I have taken. I am frequently inspired by my surroundings and the people I encounter along the way and those impressions appear in my choice of materials or color palettes in my pieces. One constant in recent works is the graphite line that meanders across the page representing my journey and the dot that appears as a remembrance of my father who was a long-time career artist.
